Programmable Bio-Nano-Chip (p-BNC) Platform
Rice's programmable Bio-Nano-Chip offers a quick and
cost-effective way to diagnose a range of diseases, a critical contribution to
a world in which the cost of healthcare is rising at an alarming rate. The pBNC
is a credit card-sized chip/reader platform that analyzes biomarkers found in
bodily fluids.
Doctors in six clinical trials are using pBNCs to diagnose:
- Ovarian,
prostate and oral cancer
- Cardiac
disease
- Drugs
of abuse
The pBNC can diagnose in minutes what previously took a lab
hours or days. This is critical to emergency care doctors – and their patients
– who need information quickly to determine a proper course of treatment.
Our goal is to make pBNC diagnostics the standard tool for
preventative medicine. Finding signs of disease before their symptoms present
will save lives and cut the cost of healthcare.
